We look forward to seeing you at this exciting, upcoming bioethic’s lecture: How placebos challenge the foundations and ethics of Medicine by an esteemed guest, Prof Dien Ho (Director of the Center for Health Humanities, Professor of Philosophy and Healthcare Ethics Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Boston, USA)

Although placebos have served as invaluable controls in randomized clinical trials, the use of therapeutic placebos remains a fringe idea. In this talk, we will examine some astounding results from recent placebo research and how they upend core philosophical assumptions in medicine. How should medicine respond, for instance, if the benefits of a treatment turn out to be entirely placebogenic?

The lessons from placebo research teach us a great deal about our physiology, what counts as evidence for therapeutic effectiveness, and the goals of care.

Please note, this lecture is does NOT require a RSVP and is in-person only, and is 'ethics CPD accredited.'
