Jointly hosted by the University of Cape Town, the Neuroscience Institute, Institute for Life Course Health Research, Stellenbosch University and the University of Bath.
Join us for an exploration of youth mental health and the role of artistic expression over drinks and snacks, following Mandela Day, remembering SA's founding father who cherished and championed the wellbeing of children.
We will be exhibiting works commissioned in Project Kwakhanya, a community-based initiative which partnered community artists, Nompumelelo Rakabe and Phumeza Madikane, with local families participating in child trauma and mental health research. This resulted in a series of co-produced artwork that reflects the lived experience of South African families. Artworks made by children around South Africa who participated in a competition hosted by UCT student society The Cortex Club will also be displayed.
