Dismantling bias and embracing pride in clinical spaces - creating inclusive spaces for queer clinicians, scientists, and patients.

Medical doctor, author, and activist, Anastacia Tomson has a well-established track record in upholding human rights for LGBTQIA+ individuals, and her work in expanding access to competent and sensitive healthcare for minority groups.

She’s a renowned public speaker and educator, regularly working with groups including the University of Pretoria’s Centre for Human Rights, the South African Judicial Education Institute, and the UNDP. She regularly lectures undergraduate medical students at UCT on the subjects of gender and sexuality.

Recognised as a Mandela Washington Fellow, as one of the Mail & Guardian’s 200 Young South Africans, and one of the Young Independents Mzansi 100, Anastacia has contributed to multiple local and international publications, and recently led the process to producing and publishing South African guidelines for gender-affirming healthcare.

This ardent human-rights defender also offers primary care services in Cape Town, her adoptive hometown. Outside of her work and activism, she might be found cooking up a vegan storm in her kitchen, or out running on a scenic trail.
