What is it, and what does it mean for genomic data sharing?

The EthicsLab invites you to a talk by Prof Barbara Prainsack, with Dr Nchangwi Munung, on the data solidarity approach and will discuss how it can be applied to genomic data sharing.

The benefits and harms emerging from digital data are distributed inequitably, within and across society. Solidarity-based data governance (in short: data solidarity) seeks to change that. It seeks to facilitate and promote low-risk data uses that are likely to create significant benefits for people and communities, while calling for prohibitions of data use that are high-risk and at the same time unlikely to create benefits for individuals and communities. While the latter helps to prevent harm, data solidarity also calls for more effective ways of mitigating harm when and where it occurs.
