The call for symposia is now open for the IBRO 2027 World Congress of Neuroscience

Taking place in Cape Town, South Africa, from 13–16 September 2027, IBRO 2027 will mark a historic milestone as the first IBRO World Congress to be held on African soil. Bringing together neuroscientists from around the world, the congress will showcase cutting-edge research, foster international collaboration, and create opportunities for meaningful scientific exchange across disciplines. 

As the host society, SANS is proud to welcome the global neuroscience community to South Africa. Working closely with IBRO and the Regional Host Committee, SANS is committed to delivering a congress that reflects both the excellence and diversity of neuroscience research across Africa and beyond. The event also represents an important opportunity to strengthen research networks, support capacity building, and inspire the next generation of neuroscientists throughout the continent.

Researchers are now invited to submit proposals for scientific symposia that will help shape the scientific programme of the congress. The Scientific Program Committee welcomes proposals addressing timely and scientifically significant topics that encourage multidisciplinary perspectives, stimulate scientific debate, and reflect the diversity of the global neuroscience community.

The call for symposia will remain open from 1 June to 31 July 2026.

Selected symposia will benefit from:

  • A two-hour session featuring four scientific presentations
  • Dedicated Q&A segments following each presentation
  • A moderated discussion exploring key questions, contrasting perspectives, and emerging challenges
  • A travel contribution of up to USD 2,000 per symposium to support eligible speakers from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and underrepresented regions

  • Registration fee waivers for selected speakers and session chairs

This format is designed to foster meaningful dialogue, multidisciplinary exchange, and broad global participation.

Proposals may be submitted under one of the official scientific themes of the congress.

The call for symposia marks an important milestone in the development of the scientific programme. Neuroscientists from around the world are encouraged to contribute their expertise and ideas to help create a congress that reflects the breadth, diversity, and vitality of contemporary neuroscience.
