Research Interests

My research focus is on understanding the molecular pathological processes in traumatic brain injury (TBI), but my interests span brain trauma, neurodegeneration, cellular biology, genetics, and sports injury. I have worked on genetic risks of sports concussion, and the molecular pathways in Parkinson's disease cell models.

I am currently working on developing a molecular 'fingerprint' for brain injury, by establishing a cellular model of TBI in order to develop reliable biomarker profiling.

I am especially keen to form mutually beneficial collaborations with fellow African and South African researchers in order to grow the interdisciplinarity nature of this field, and better the ability to identify and treat TBI.
