Research Interests

Dr Lwandile Tokwe is a Nursing Education Specialist, researcher, and Project Director for the Khanya R01 study; focusing on stepped care, a peer delivered intervention to improve ART Adherence and substance use in primary care. He is based in the HIV Mental Health Research Unit at the University of Cape Town's Neuroscience Institute.

His primary focus is on HIV and associated co-morbidities (Diabetes Mellitus, hypertension, substance use disorders and Tuberculosis). His secondary focus is on digital health interventions and adolescent health. He is a qualitative researcher, widely published in reputable journals and serves as an Associate Editor for the African Journal of AIDs Research (AJAR).
