Associate Professor Hedley Twidle
'Literatures of Dementia' Researcher, Head of Department, English Literary Studies
Research Interests
I believe that my work on the arts and literatures of dementia, Alzheimer's and related conditions will enable inter-disciplinary dialogues and a way of building links to the Humanities. These engagements also raise questions around ethics, personhood and the self in the face of altered or damaged memory. I hope to locate my work within the (south) African context, and so broaden and extend the canon/corpus of writing about neurodegenerative disorders (and related questions of care) beyond Euro-America.
