Research Interests
My doctoral research with biomedical engineers and land surveyors developing a novel neurosurgical device, the Cape Town Stereotactic Pointer, was an early introduction to the joys of interdisciplinary research. As a paediatric neurosurgeon, my interests lie in congenital disorders such as spina bifida, and functional conditions such as spasticity and epilepsy. Research questions that interest me include the prevention of neural tube defects by folic acid, in particular understanding the neurobiology, and developing sustainable strategies through food fortification, and the evaluation and management of spasticity.
