Research Interests

My main research interest is dementia. My projects have included studies of both Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and HIV-associated dementia. Specific questions addressed have included: (1) improving dementia diagnostic methods, especially in the context of South Africa; (2) the epidemiology/prevalence of dementias in South Africa; (3) inflammatory mechanisms of neurodegeneration and AD pathogenesis; and (4) HIV-associated dementia and HIV-related stroke.
