Research Interests
Sam Nightingale is an Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Cape Town and a fellow of the Race Against Dementia. His research focuses on cognitive impairment and the neurology of HIV infection. He is co-PI of the CONNECT study, investigating the CNS effects of the programmatic shift from efavirenz- to dolutegravir-based antiretroviral therapy in Cape Town. He is PI of the Ingqondo study funded by the Donald Gordon Foundation, which examines inflammatory and infective mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease. He is chair of the International HIV-Cognition Working Group, reframing criteria for cognitive impairment in people living with HIV.
