Research Interests

My research involves using neuroimaging techniques to better understand the brain as it ages and when exposed to disease. I have used imaging to study brain function, structure and metabolism related to epilepsy, HIV infection, HIV exposure and typical brain development. Further, my research involves complementary measures to study how the brain is interlinked with the body and its environment. I am particularly interested in the relationship between the brain and the gut microbiome. Bi-directional communication between the gut and brain regulates health. Many diseases and disorders are linked to the gut-brain axis, and likely influence it.
