Two Neuroscience Institute researchers, Ernesta Meintjies and Anthony Figaji, have been recognised for their distinguished academic work by being inducted into UCT's College of Fellows. In 2022 only 4 appointments were made highlighting just how exceptional these two researchers are.

Prof Ernesta Meintjies is from the division of Biomedical Engineering and is the Director of MRI at the Cape Universities Body Imaging Centre. Her research focusses on developing motion-robust methods to acquire magnetic resonance images (MRI), and the application of these methods to study diseases and conditions particularly relevant to South Africa.

Prof Anthony Figaji is the National Research Foundation SARChI Chair of Clinical Neuroscience and heads up African Brain Child. He is interested in secondary brain injury with a focus on traumatic brain injury, tuberculous meningitis and bacterial meningitis - leading causes of death and disability in children worldwide.
