The Student Psychiatry Society is pleased to announce their first event of Term 3:

‘Insights into Behavioural Medicine’

We are excited to be joined by two researchers from UCT’s HIV Mental Health Research Unit to discuss various topics related to behavioural medicine and its importance in our country’s healthcare system: A/Prof Stephan Rabie and Dr Lwandile Tokwe!

Behavioural medicine event

Behavioural medicine is primarily concerned with interdisciplinary approaches to health and illness, including but not limited to the biopsychosocial (biological-psychological-social) model of disease. In South Africa, this is a particularly pertinent field, given that we have the highest number of HIV positive people in the world, as well as high rates of foetal alcohol syndrome, mental illness, and non-communicable diseases.

Feel free to note down any questions you may have for the speakers. All are welcome 🫶🏻
