Dr Catherine Wedderburn

Chief Research Officer. Neurodevelopment and Neuroimaging Researcher, Department of Paediatrics and Child Health

Research Interests

I am a clinician scientist dedicated to improving global health through high quality research, clinical care, and the translation of evidence into policy and practice. My expertise spans paediatrics, neuroscience, infectious diseases, and international health.

My research focuses on optimising brain health across the life course by examining how early-life exposures affect brain development and identifying opportunities for intervention. I collaborate on several cohort studies using multimodal neuroimaging and developmental assessment tools to understand these relationships. I am particularly interested in the interplay between the environment, infectious diseases, and the brain, as well as the use of emerging technologies. In addition, I have been the trial physician on international paediatric HIV and TB trials.

I have experience working with the World Health Organization and Médecins Sans Frontières, contributing to policy development and implementation research. I also have a strong commitment to capacity strengthening and public engagement.
